Dressed in all-white cocktail attire, guests enjoyed a fun-filled evening of giving and social networking. Proceeds of the gala go to the fraternity’s ICare Foundation, a nonprofit that awards scholarship funds to county students who participate in the Kappa League. The historically Black fraternity chapter was formed in 1950 with a mission to help male sixth- to 12th-grade students from underserved communities develop leadership skills. The organization marked its 70th anniversary of service to the community. In 2023, St. Vincent’s House, alongside its dedicated staff and partners, made a profound difference in the lives of more than 100,000 individuals. Their collaboration with the university of Texas Medical Branch facilitated the operation of 30 volunteer clinics and a Dental extraction Clinic staffed by volunteer dentists. Additionally, 17,925 individuals received groceries, with an average of 135 new individuals or families seeking assistance each month. The organization completed 5,943 homebound food deliveries, ensuring that families and seniors lacking transportation received nourishment. Also, 8,239 snack packs were distributed to 846 unsheltered people and 700 families received vital rental assistance, enabling them to maintain stable housing. Photos by Carla Peoples ST.
