I t isn’t hyperbole to say Jason Browne lives and breathes trumpet. An accomplished musician who has performed with the Galveston Symphony, Houston Brass Band and rock band Pangea, Browne teaches trumpet at his JB’s Music School and cleans and repairs brass and other wind instruments with his second company JB’s Band Instru- ment Repair in League City, where he also lives. In a house filled with instruments, he has 11 trumpets in his personal collection. “I could have more but I try to keep it to instruments I play,” Browne said. “I don’t want to collect trumpets as objects.” His collection includes trumpets of all sizes. The smallest is a piccolo trumpet good for keeping up practice while trav- eling. The largest is a long bugle that Browne often uses for military ceremonies and services. As a former U.S. Marine, playing “Taps” has special mean- ing for Browne. He also has learned to play “The Last Post,” COASTMONTHLY.COM | AuguST 2025 81 Call (713) 521-0413 matt.hawkes@nflp.com | nflp.com/matthawkes Matt Hawkes | Branch Manager | NMLS# 201887 1009 Broadway St., Galveston, TX 77550 Matt Hawkes WORK WITH Galveston's Local Lender! One of the most unusual trumpets is a rota- ry valve trumpet with circular valves and flat keys rather than the usual valve configuration. “They are more common in Europe and add an authentic sound for German music,” Browne said. His newest trumpet was custom made for him by Fort Worth-based master craftsman Steve Bell Jr. “He makes trumpets built for the player,” Browne said. “It is an amazing trumpet. It is really sleek and modern with a scratch finish. It plays really nice.” (Opposite) Musician Jason Browne teaches the trumpet as well as repairs brass and other wind instruments. It took me six months to stretch them and I think they are cool and stylish but still professional. The gold looks great against my skin tone.” David: “My cowboy hat and belt are a combo I found on Amazon. I like matching our outfits when we go out, wearing black and silver we look like a power couple.” Kaleyah: “I painted this set about three years ago and it was inspired by a video game that David was playing called ‘Bendy and the Ink Machine.’” Kaleyah: “This portrait of Doja Cat took me about four hours to paint with a tiny brush. She is such a fashion icon.” Kaleyah: “My chrome nails are the Japanese gel I specialize in. Sometimes, I like to add gems, too.” Kaleyah: “I got these ladybug earrings from Belle Lees on The Strand. I often buy earrings when I’m downtown, especially if I’ve forgotten to wear some. My family’s nick- name for me is ladybug.” Kaleyah: “I love the metallic fabric of this scarf. I got a red-colored one for David’s grandmother when I bought mine. Scarfs are great in summer to keep cool and keep your hair up. I just curl the front two pieces of my hair and the rest is nobody’s business.” Kaleyah: “My bracelet is from Holistic Solutions and it is actually a high-frequency piece that uses electro magnetic frequencies to balance you.” Kaleyah: “I love silver and my slingback shoes and handbag were both online finds.” Kaleyah: “Sunglasses are a real signature for me. I have so many pairs. I love the ‘60s style of these black ones with their cat’s eye frames. The silver heart-shaped glasses were originally plain, but I bedazzled them myself just how I would bedazzle nails.” COASTMONTHLY.COM | AuguST 2025 83 “Five Star Foundation lives up to its name... Malveaux loves to wear black and white clothes or all black clothes with silver accessories, and Valerio likes to match her style. “Black is so elegant and working in a service industry, I think it always looks professional and polished,” Malveaux said. “Black and sil- ver is my signature. I’m known for my sunglasses and my accessories. I like to look timeless and chic.” Malveaux is an accomplished nail artist who specializes in Japanese gel. Her fantastic creations can feature gems, embellishments or highly detailed paintings that are miniature works of art. “I get inspiration from everything around me,” Malveaux said. “It might be a movie or video game, trends in fashion, a flower or even the gleam of a shiny car that I want to recreate.” A graduate of Galveston College’s cosmetology program, Malveaux just launched her own mobile nail art business — Veaux Nails Travel- ing Manicures. For her artwork nails, she works on commission creat- ing reusable press-on nails. Past commissions include Astros-themed nails and snakeskin nails made from real snakeskin. Valerio remembers when he first saw Malveaux he was awed. “I thought I’m way too underdressed to even talk with her,” he said. On date night, he dresses to please her, but day to day, the Houston Pilots base operator favors jeans or shorts with a graphic T-shirt. Mal- veaux likes that he takes direction but also when he does his own thing. “He dresses nice on his own,” she said.
