Hughes was an island physician and community champion who was killed in a hit-and-run crash in March. The luau-inspired evening featured food, drinks, entertainment and fundraising. CAPGAL is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life for the indigent and less fortunate individuals of Galveston County by providing assistance through its Community Assistance Providers Fund.
