< Previous30 COAST BRIDAL | 2022 REAL WEDDING Before the big day, Hunter and Gregory had separate bachelorette and bachelor parties — Hunter and her friends had theirs in Akumal, Mexico, and Gregory and his friends went to Las Vegas. “My friends and I spent the entire day at the beach and used pesos for our drinks, not realizing the exchange rate and ended up having to pay a $900 bar tab,” Hunter said. Back home, and the eve of the wedding, a rehearsal dinner was held at The Hidden Palms in Santa Fe with Mexican food and margaritas. The morning of the big event, the wed- ding party convened bright and early at Still Waters Ranch for hair and makeup. The maid of honor and five bridesmaids each had on dresses of various shades of tan, nude and pink. Hunter’s Françoise-style gown by Élysée featured ivory/nude floral baroque lace, thousands of hand-embroi- dered beads and paillette sparkles over delicate French Chantilly lace and tulle. Gregory, his best man and five groomsmen, wore black tuxedos with Gregory sporting a bow tie and groomsmen wearing tradition- al neckties. Also getting ready was the ring bearer, Buoy, Hunter’s 6-year-old black Lab, decked out in bow tie and white cuffs. “Throughout the day, I was pretty calm until I saw everyone arriving,” Hunter said. “Then walking down the aisle, my nerves kicked in. But we had written our own vows, and as we read them to each other, we were so happy.” Italian food was served at the reception, and a five-tier bride’s cake, along with a groom’s cake in the shape of two fish — redfish and trout — were enjoyed. A local DJ played the couple’s favorite tunes, and their first dance was “Anything but Mine,” by Kenny Chesney. At the end of the night, the couple rode off in a limo as everyone lit sparklers. After a weekend honeymoon at Moody Gardens in Galveston, the newlyweds re- sumed their lives, but will be taking a longer celebratory trip in the future, they said. “We are both working full time and taking college classes as well,” Hunter said. “We’re currently living with my grandmother in Santa Fe to save money to build a house on land that we acquired.” As for Gregory’s fishing habit? “We both love to fish and hunt together,” she said. “I grew up barefoot, made my own sling shots, and fished, so I am an outdoorsy girl and even have my own waders. We’re the perfect match.” PHOTOS: COURTESY ASHLEY QUARLES THORNHILL/HEY PRETTY BABY PHOTOGRAPHY COAST BRIDAL | 2022 31 Memories Made Here 2500 South Shore Blvd. League City, TX 77573 FOR MORE INFORMATION: SSHR.COM | 281-334-1000 Located Halfway Between Houston And Galveston, on Clear Lake. The wedding celebrated not only their love for each other, but their Galveston roots. Rebecca looks back on the big day. Bride: Rebecca Rubio Groom: Winston Denton III How and when did you meet? We met through mutual friends of ours at Oktoberfest 2015 in Galveston. Why did you choose Galveston and Ashton Villa for your wedding? Because we are both BOIs (born on the island) and also because when we met, we just so happened to be right outside the Ashton Villa for Oktoberfest, so it made perfect sense to have the Ashton Villa be the spot where we made the perfect circle to our love story. How many guests were at the wedding? We had about 120 guests. How did you choose Winston’s birthday as the date? We chose Nov. 27, 2021, as our wedding date, mainly because we knew we wanted to get married in the fall and have a fall wedding, PHOTOS: COURTESY MARIAM KHALILI PHOTOGRAPHYbut also with Winston’s birthday com- ing up, anytime I would ask him what he would want to do or want for his birthday, he would always reply with “I just want to marry you.” So that is why we chose his birthday to be our wedding day. What was the most fun part of wedding planning? I would have to say picking the flowers and decorations. I thought it would be the hardest part, but it turned out to be my favorite part, next to picking a wedding dress, that would have to be a close second. What was the most stressful? The most stressful part of the planning process would have to be picking the music. I truly thought this would be the easiest part of the plan- ning, but we did have a hard time picking the music for our wedding because we weren’t too sure exactly what to play, since we wanted our wedding music to be just a little different than any other wedding we had been to. Did you have a song? Yes, we did have a song! Our song was “Forever After All,” by Luke Combs. What did you absolutely have to have at your wedding? A taco bar, for sure! Anyone who knows me knows that I absolutely love tacos and it wouldn’t be my wedding without them. Would you do anything differently if you could plan the wedding again? If I could do anything differently with the wedding planning, it would be not obsessing over everyone’s opinions and expectations in the be- ginning of the planning process. What advice would you give a bride and groom planning their wedding? My best piece of advice would actual- ly tie into your previous question. Don’t stress over what others expect for your wedding. This is a special day for the both of you, and it is about the both of you as well. It’s OK if someone doesn’t like what you chose or picked, because this day is not about them. You should look back on this day and love every part of the whole day instead of wishing you did the things you really wanted. Also, don’t stress over the small stuff, not everything will go perfectly smoothly, just breathe, relax, enjoy your special day, and just have fun. Also, it really helps if you have your wedding planner only tell your husband what is wrong if there is anything wrong, and it can be brought up to you a few days after. COAST BRIDAL | 2022 3334 COAST BRIDAL | 2022 BEHIND THE VEIL MEET ASHLEY REESE W earing a blush pink ballgown and bejew- eled tiara, our cover model Ashley Reese evokes dreams of fairy tale weddings. Reese, a Galves- ton resident who works in the spa at Moody Gardens Hotel on the island, shares details of her big day with Coast Bridal. She and Joshua Reese were married July 3, 2021, at the Waterfront Event Center in Galveston. Bride: Ashley Symone Groom: Joshua Reese Why did you choose the Water- front Event Center? Because we just absolutely fell in love with the overall look. The deck sitting right on the waterfront really was just the icing on the cake! Did you have a theme? Not really, I just knew that I wanted to feel like a princess on my day. How and where did you two meet? On Instagram. Funny story, because during the first date, we discovered he actually lived on the next street over from me, but we had never seen one another before. Tell us about your dress. My dress is very unique to me! I had purchased a dress and decided I RYAN R JONES PHOTOGRAPHY COAST BRIDAL | 2022 35 wanted to switch it and purchased a new one. A few weeks before the wed- ding, I stumbled across a bridal shop and I decided to try on more dresses. So happy I did, because that was the day I found my dream wedding dress. Pink is my favorite color, and because I’m super girly, I just knew the dress screamed me. How many guests were at the wedding? Roughly 200 people. How did you choose the date? We originally wanted our anniversary date when we first got together, which was June 30, but since it didn’t fall on the weekend, we went with the next best date, July 3. What was the most fun part of wedding planning? Definitely trying on dresses and having a relaxing spa day. What was the most stressful? Not knowing what the weather would be like on our big day. What did you absolutely have to have at your wedding? Gold Ava chairs were a must for me! I went through so much to make sure I had the seats I wanted. Did you have a song? Yes! “You Are The Reason,” a duet by Calum Scott and Leona Lewis. Would you do anything differently if you could plan the wedding again? I wouldn’t change a thing!
